Mechanical stresses play a
central role in the morphogenesis of multicellular structures.
They not only drive tissue deformation but also act as signals that trigger cell
differentiation and coordinate development. This is particularly evident in
plant tissues,
where turgor pressure generates substantial stresses within cell walls.
In this presentation, we will explore the signaling role of pressure-induced
stresses during
Arabidopsis seed development from both formal and computational perspectives.
We will
first see how antagonistic cellular responses to mechanical loading can
constitute a
regulatory motif central to seed size control. We will then discuss to what
extent such
mechanical signals can convey geometrical information to growing cells about
their tissue context.
