New EMBO Member: Raphaël Mercier

We are very happy to announce that Raphael Mercier, Director and Head of the Department of Chromosome Biology at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) is a newly elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), as recognition of his research excellence and outstanding achievement in the life sciences.

EMBO announces today, July 7, that Raphael Mercier has been elected among 63 outstanding life scientists to its membership. He is joining a group of more than 1800 of the best researchers in Europe and around the world. The 52 new EMBO Members reside in 18 Member States of the European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC), EMBO’s intergovernmental funding body. The 11 new Associate Members are currently based in Australia, Canada, Chile, India, Japan, Singapore, and the United States.

EMBO is an organization that promotes excellence in the life sciences. EMBO Members actively participate in EMBO’s initiatives by serving on the organisation's Council, committees and editorial boards, participating in the evaluation of applications for EMBO funding, acting as mentors to young scientists in our community, and advising on key activities.
