The Leica CPD300 critical point dryer is used to completely dry chemically fixed samples before SEM imaging. Critical point drying is an efficient method that preserves the surface structure of a specimen which would be damaged by evaporative drying due to the effect of surface tension when changing from the liquid to gaseous state.
