Next Generation Plant Science Symposium 2012

The Postdoc Initiative at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne, Germany (PIM), have organized multidisciplinary symposium: Next Generation Plant Science’12 (NGPS’12).

The PIM is a group of Postdocs which meets regularly and organizes courses and workshops for Posdocs, with the aim to support the scientific development of young scientists. Already in 2010, what was planned to be a small internal workshop to learn about Next Generation Sequencing technologies, developed into international symposium with around 300 participants, 14 sponsoring companies and several experts in the field (Next Generation Sequencing 2010). The NGPS’12 was a follow up of this very successful symposium.

First part of the NGPS’12 brought an update on the fast developing sequencing technologies. Other sessions presented new high-throughput technologies used for phenotyping and imaging as well as recent developments is genome engineering.

The NGPS’12 was also great opportunity to meet with private companies acting in above mentioned fields.

The Symposium took place on September 26-28, 2012.
