Cryostat

The Leica CM3050 S research cryostat allows to cryosection frozen samples, thereby avoiding embedding in a hardening material like paraffin wax or resin. The instrument is designed for precise specimen orientation and reproducible, thin serial sections of high quality. Prior to freezing, samples are chemically fixed and impregnated with a mixture of fixative and 30% sucrose for cryoprotection. Subsequently, they are embedded in a water-soluble embedding compound that bonds and encapsulates the specimens to the object holder for cryosectioning.
