Jonathan Howard appointed to Max Planck Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research

The president of the Max Planck Society has appointed Professor Dr. Jonathan Howard to Max Planck Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research as of April 1, 2013.

Jonathan Howard is an outstanding university scientist and professor emeritus at Cologne University. Besides his directorship at the Gulbenkian Institute Lisbon he will now head a small research group at the MPIPZ for at least 3 years. In recent years Jonathan Howard’s work concentrated on the role of Immunity Related GTPases in resistance of mice to the widely distributed natural protozoal pathogen, Toxoplasma gondii. At the MPIPZ, he and his collaborators will study the „Evolutionary ecology of a gene-for-gene host-pathogen relationship in animals: Toxoplasma gondii and the house mouse, Mus musculus”.
