Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences has been approved

June 18, 2012

The board of Directors are happy to announce that the excellence cluster on plant sciences, CEPLAS, has been approved for funding on June 15th over a period of five years. CEPLAS research will focus on molecular mechanisms underlying inter-species trait diversification within a single phylogenetic framework, the Brassicaceae. CEPLAS targets four fundamental traits: C4 photosynthesis, annual & perennial life history, metabolic interactions and the plant microbiota. CEPLAS involves as regional partners the University of Düsseldorf, the University of Cologne, the MPIPZ and the Forschungszentrum Jülich. CEPLAs provides also funding for many new professorships on plant science in Düsseldorf and Cologne. We aim to host at our Institute two CEPLAS-funded research groups.
