Keeping the plant cell green? Polycomb-mediated crosstalk between development and metabolism

Epigenetic repression by Polycomb complexes (PRCs) is an evolutionarily conserved mechanism of stable gene repression, primarily studied in the context of plant and animal development.

Studying the seed-to-seedling transition in Arabidopsis, we became interested in the crosstalk between metabolic and developmental identities in plant cells and the role of PRCs in it.

In my talk, I will present our progress in identifying and understanding the roles of PRC2 in establishing and maintaining photoautotrophy in Arabidopsis, moss, and, more recently, also unicellular green algae.

I would like to raise the question of whether the control of primary metabolism may be an evolutionarily conserved function of PRC2.
