The University of Cologne invites applications for a

 Data manager

The successful candidate will work for the central platform of a DFG-funded Germany-wide Priority Programme (SPP 2125 ‘DECRyPT’) that includes twenty-five different laboratories across multiple universities and research institutions in the country.

The successful applicant will be expected to coordinate and administer storage, distribution, and analysis of large quantities of sequencing data generated by members of the research consortium. In addition, the selected candidate will develop applications to analyze and display data. Extensive computational resources and infrastructure will be provided by the University of Cologne and the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research to enable the successful completion of these tasks.

We seek candidates with a bachelor degree in computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, or a related field. Applicants are expected to be proficient in the use of Linux/Unix and have competence in programming (e.g. Matlab, R, Python), relational databases (e.g. SQL), and web programming (e.g., HTML, JavaScript, PHP, CSS). The ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and international team as well as good communication skills in English are essential.

The successful candidate will be officially employed by the University of Cologne but based at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research. This is a 50% position (19.5 hours/week) with substantial schedule flexibility and the possibility of telecommuting. Initial duration is for 3 years with the possibility of extension for an additional period of 3 years. Possible starting dates range between October 2018 and January 2019. Salary and benefits are commensurate with public service regulations (TVL).
